he toleration region of Mawlana, an agricultural city
of 30-year ago, Konya has shown a great advance-
ment within last 10 years. In line with Turkey’s 2023
vision, Konya is a nominee to be a new center of Turkey
in the areas of industry, trade, health, education and tou-
rism in the decentralization of Istanbul. With its respective
entrepreneurship spirit, geographic position, investments
in transport infrastructures, steps taken in university-in-
dustry cooperation Konya is advancing both on the way
to be production and trade center, in addition to be an
attraction center for the foreign investors.
Konya is one of the provinces to contribute to Turkey’s
2023 objectives. The basic target of Konya in 2023 is to
reach a higher production capacity and a higher natio-
nal income. In this scope, Konya is preparing to 2023 with
agriculture, industry, transport, tourism, energy, educati-
on, infrastructure and with urban projects.
Konya’s trade and industry is continuing to develop.
Known as cereal depot of Turkey, now growing with its
industry Konya has become a city which makes its name
known across the world with its industrial sector.
Exporting to 172 countries, the exports of the city have
gained a remarkable acceleration in the last 12 years.
In 2001 while the exports were $100 million in 2013 the
exports reached $1,35 billion. In this period, as Turkey’s
exports increased 4 fold, Konya’s exports grew 13,5 fold.
In H1 2014, our exports increased 21.5 percent to $791,5
million. At the same period, Turkey’s total exports incre-
ased 7.3 percent. The exports increase speed of our city
shows to reach by $1,7 billion by the end of this year.
Despite these figures, Konya has not yet achieved its real
potential figures in the exports. The exports of Konya are
aimed to be $2,5 billion in the next 5 years, $15 billion in
2023. In addition, today ranking 14th in exports; we aim
to rank in first 5 cities in 2023. In terms of exporter firms,
Konya takes place in first 5 cities. Today, in Konya there
are some 1350 exporter firms. This number is aimed to rise
by 2000 in 2023.
One of the most important economy indicators of this
city is joblessness. According to the figure of TUIK, in 2013
unemployment was 9.7 percent for Turkey. As for Konya,
this rate is 4.7 percent being 5 point under the Turkey’s
rate. Konya with the province of Karaman ranked first
with this figure. In order to activate economic potential
of Konya, using our city’s socioeconomic structure in the
truest way for the targets of 2023 and to be an interna-
tional investment city as the chamber, we have set the
vision of Konya. In this vision, taking 3 percent share from
Turkey’s exports and foreign trade, our targets are to ac-
